Kavango is led by an experienced board and executive team with the technical expertise and commercial experience required to turn underexplored exploration and mining projects into valuable commercial opportunities.

Donald McAlister

Executive Chairman

Donald has led numerous successful financings of mining ventures and has significant experience working in Zimbabwe. He is the founder and a director of Tertiary Minerals (LON:TYM). He was Finance Director of Reunion Mining PLC from 1994 until its takeover in 1999. He was Finance Director of Cluff Mining PLC (which became Ridge Mining PLC) from 2000 until 2009. He served as Finance Director of Mwana Africa PLC from 2009 until 2013 and served on the board of Mwana’s subsidiary companies in Zimbabwe, Feda Rebecca Gold Mine and Bindura Nickel Corporation.

Jasper Musadaidzwa

Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer

Jasper is a Zimbabwean national who began his mining career in Zimbabwe, with over 27 years’ experience across the industry, including 17 years with AngloGold Ashanti (“AGA”). He most recently served as Senior Vice President of AGA’s Guinea Business Unit, having previously held the role of Senior Vice President of Operations for AGA’s Africa Region, responsible for four mines. Earlier AGA positions included Managing Director and General Manager of the Iduapriem Gold Mine in Ghana, Operations Manager at the Siguiri Gold Mine in Guinea, and senior roles at the Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania. He also worked for Anglo American at the Skorpion Zinc Mine in Namibia.

Lorenz Werndle

Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer

Lorenz is a seasoned finance executive with experience spanning mining, strategy, corporate development, and M&A across Africa and international capital markets. He served as CFO of Nasdaq-listed Blue Gold Ltd and was previously Head of Corporate Development at Mwana Africa Plc, where he supported funding, restructuring, and turnaround initiatives of their Zimbabwe assets. He also served as Head of Business Development at Lonrho Plc concluding several business and asset acquisitions across Africa. Earlier in his career, Lorenz advised mining companies on IPOs, fundraisings, and M&A transactions at Ambrian Plc, and on corporate strategies at Accenture.

Hillary Gumbo

Executive Director

Hillary is a geophysicist with over 35 years’ experience in mineral exploration across southern Africa and the Middle East. He co-founded Kavango Minerals and 3D Earth Exploration and has worked with Reunion Mining, Cannister Resources, and Rockover. He has contributed to key gold, chrome, and kimberlite discoveries in Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Alex Gorman

Executive Director

Alex is an economic geologist and former mining analyst at Peel Hunt, where she focused on London-listed gold producers. She previously worked at BMO and Wood Mackenzie across commodities and markets. She joins Kavango’s Executive Team after a year on the board, bringing deep insight and targetted experience into exploration and project evaluation.

Gautam Dalal

Non-Executive Director

Gautam is a chartered accountant and former KPMG partner with over 30 years’ experience advising global industrials and resource companies. He led KPMG’s Indian operations and later its Diversified Industrials sector. He brings valuable governance expertise and board-level experience across listed companies and public institutions, including Moxico Resources and Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. Gautam is chairman of the Audit Committee.

Thamsanqa Mpofu

Non-Executive Director

During his extensive commercial and executive career spanning 38 years, Tham has held senior positions in various local and international companies including the 3M Company in Zimbabwe, BHP Minerals Zimbabwe Limited, Meikles Hospitality, and Chairman of ZB Financial Holdings Limited. A graduate of Teesside and Manchester Universities (UK), he brings a wealth of local and international commercial experience, as well as in depth knowledge of Zimbabwe’s business and economic environment.
