Environment
Kavango is committed to the ethical, safe and responsible production of mineral products. As a mineral exploration company and early-stage producer, Kavango has started the process to inform our business on how best to support the objectives of the Paris Agreement 2016 through the lifetime of our assets. Kavango recognises that its operations are dependent on and have an impact on the natural environment. Kavango is growing its knowledge of the opportunities to best manage its business and its impacts in the context of climate change.
As a mineral exploration company and early stage producer, our team’s performance is linked to successful identification of minerals, and economic mineral deposits. We are continuing to develop our performance recognition and reward systems and intend that climate-related key performance indicators will form part of short and long-term incentive plans. We aim to use resources efficiently and gain a deeper knowledge of circularity within our business.
Governance
In line with this, Kavango maintains robust internal governance structures that promote transparency, accountability, and operational integrity. These systems ensure compliance with local laws and international standards, such as Zimbabwe’s National Code of Corporate Governance. Kavango further reinforces its governance commitment through regular oversight by the Board of Directors and adherence to evolving ESG frameworks.
Community
The impact of the Company’s activities on its stakeholders, employees and suppliers and the likely impact of operations on the environment and local communities are of foremost importance to Kavango when making business decisions.
Engagement with local communities is dependent on jurisdiction and the stage of development but is typically via public forum or with local or regional leaders, including site visits and workshops. Wherever possible, local communities are engaged in safe geological operations and support functions that enable field operations and the delivery of Kavango’s strategy, for the wider economic benefit of the local communities in the areas in which the Kavango group has a presence, which it believes is vital to the success of the Company.
The Company is committed to continually improving community development and community investment programmes through monitoring, measuring, and managing its social and economic impacts, placing local people at the centre of development by helping to build their capacity to control their own development. Community initiatives have included assistance to a rural school and sponsorship of a local football team.
The Company seeks to maximise local employment; the Botswana based team are all Botswana nationals, and in excess of 90% of the Zimbabwe team are Zimbabwean nationals.
Health & Safety
The welfare and safety of the Kavango group of companies’ employees, workforce, contractors and suppliers is of paramount importance, and is upheld through a clearly defined safety policy. Employee training focuses on operating safely and considerately.
Kavango invests in site-level infrastructure and emergency response preparedness to ensure all personnel are well-supported. Moreover, safety is embedded in company culture, with regular risk assessments, training refreshers, and open communication channels. By fostering a proactive safety-first environment, Kavango protects its workforce while contributing to the wider wellbeing of the communities in which it operates.
