Historic High-Grade Gold Production with Bulk Mining and Tailings Potential
The Nara project presents dual potential: exploration upside in a historically productive but underexplored shear corridor, and near-term recoverable ounces from existing surface material.
Comprising 45 contiguous gold claims, Nara covers four historic mines with combined recorded production of more than 90,000 ounces (“oz”). However, it has never been subjected to systematic modern exploration.
Kavango is targeting both primary hard-rock mineralisation and gold recovery from surface tailings at Nara. The company’s exploration is currently focused on the historically productive Killarney Mine, where small-scale miners are currently working upper levels. Kavango believes that flooded at deeper levels may have preserved significant unmined gold mineralisation until now.
Drilling at Killarney has confirmed a gold-bearing system beneath existing workings. Key results from hole NAKLDD001 intersected new mineralised hanging wall and footwall zones, supported by IP data identifying a strong resistivity low coincident with the core of the mine workings. These features suggest mineralisation may continue along strike and at depth.
To test this, Kavango has drilled three additional holes:
- NAKDDL002 and NAKLDD004 targeted zones northwest and southeast of NAKLDD001 to test mineralisation in historically undrilled areas
- NAKDDL003 focused on an unmined area southeast of the current workings
- All three holes were also designed to confirm continuity of the new hanging wall and footwall reefs intersected in NAKLDD001
Assay and multi-element analysis results are currently pending.
Beyond its mining potential, Nara hosts two large tailings dumps derived from historic and ongoing artisanal activity. A recent resource estimate concluded:
- Measured Resource: 77,664 tonnes @ 0.54 grams per tonne (“g/t”) Au (1,346oz contained)
- Indicated Resource: 221,934 tonnes @ 0.65g/t Au (4,637oz contained)
Kavango is now conducting technical studies to determine the optimal route for processing these tailings at a nearby facility.
